01: PROJECT
"QUALITY OVER QUANTITY"
EXPLANATION: PART 1
The project “Quality over Quantity” features a stop motion video, with the aim of showcasing an artwork while also delivering a wider social context by playing a political message by Vivienne Westwood in the background. In the video, a printed picture of an artwork is presented.
PROCESS DETAILS
A photograph shot by Marko Zavernik in Slovenia, was digitally manipulated by me
The main sketchbook processing of final ideas included evaluating various versions of picture digital manipulation
Fabric test experiments were carried out beforehand, so that the artwork creation process could be practiced
The chosen version was hand embroidered onto a dress, and the final design piece was photographed
As seen in the detailed shot, apart from the sewn embroidery, linen strand material was also attached to the fabric
EXPLANATION: PART 2
Since the embroidery was done by using white thread, it is why I decided to include threads in the video. The distortion of the human face represents the public opinion of how humans are victims of their own capitalistic actions, how they continue to self-destruct and harm the planet, if human overconsumption is not put to a stop. My aim with this video was to visually showcase the handmade garment, while also engaging the observer in critical thinking. In the video, the two threads can be seen invading the artwork, just like humans invade natural habitats to serve our consumerist needs.
